I pre-proved the GOP would go racist over Powell’s endorsement of Obama before Sununu went racist in deriding endorsement
I don’t go and post right wing comments on here to start flame wars with right wing websites. I do it (outside of humor) to show that the right wing base is a racist, extremist base.
As soon as Powell endorsed Obama I knew the response would be to attack the decision as racist by the right wing base.
Now, I have sometimes argued that while the right wing base maybe racist the GOP leadership is just cynical and uses racism to rile up their base and sow doubts in independents who may have some vestigial traces of racism, etc.
Case in point was John Sununu’s derision of Powell’s endorsement of Obama was because Obama is black (and not because Powell said Obama is doing a good job).
The reason they went to the racist attack on Powell’s endorsement could be because they are indeed racists but it really means that Powell’s endorsement actually has gravitas. It is a big deal. This endorsement carries weight with independents.
So John Sununu’s attack was to sow doubt in the minds of these independents using racism.
